Palomar South Face Saturday May 2, 2009? This hike should be strenuous. It will entail over 6000 feet of elevation change and be between 6 and 12 miles long. It will take between 4 and 12 hours, depending. There is no trail, this is overland bushwacking at it's finest. Some of the area was recently burned so the going will be pretty easy (besides the 30% grade :) ). Depending on our path there may be some dirt roads for us to use. I recommend long pants, a short and long sleeved shirt, and a hat. There is poison oak which we may or may not be able to avoid. Don't worry, I'm very allergic to it, so I won't drag anyone through anything I wouldn't want to face. Other things I'll be bringingHere is a map. It is very large, so you might want to right-click on it to download it. You'll need to zoom in to see everything. The route is yellow and has START and END markings. The trailhead is off Nate Harrison Grade. Notice the hike starts with an immediate drop of about 1000 feet, followed by a very rapid ascent of about 4500 feet. After that I'm not exactly certain of what we'll find until we near the Lower French Valley, and that is one big reason I want to hike this. At the end we'll meet someone who will return us to our vehicles. Feel free to invite anyone to call me to discuss joining us. 760.533.3839 or b@ourgoodgarden.com.
